Ed Gillespie got more votes than any VA GOP nominee in the history of the commonwealth. D turnout was just bonkers

Seems like the anti-Trump coalition Dems expected in 2016 (real shift in c.e. whites + minority turnout surge) showed up a year late.

Dems spent eight years unable to convince the base to show up in local elections.
They seem to have fixed that problem.

Northam won the biggest Dem victory in VA since 1985 and was interrupted by protesters because Democrats https://t.co/llMNzfNZyH

Whoa. Let's not lose sight of the youth vote here.

Under the radar: tonight Virginia elected a governor who's for a $15 min wage, decriminalizing pot, banning assault weapons, and free community college. Big progressive win tonight.

Remarkable: Northam outperformed Hillary even in Prince William Co, where she ran up 21-point margin v Trump.

Tom Davis, former GOP congressman in Virginia, on Gillespie's defeat: “Ed couldn’t escape being a proxy for Trump, which killed him.” #VAGov

Og hvordan takler Trump nederlaget?
Ed Gillespie worked hard but did not embrace me or what I stand for. Don’t forget, Republicans won 4 out of 4 House seats, and with the economy doing record numbers, we will continue to win, even bigger than before!

Some Trumpists have created an unfalsifiable hypothesis about Trump: if someone loses, they didn't embrace Trump; if they win, credit Trump.

Så…
Now, the question is what tonight does to '18 House GOP retirements/Dem recruitment (more the former, since latter is in late stages).
