    DAGENS SITAT:

«Winning elections is about convincing the voters that the we have their back, that we’re on their side. If we want to win, we must offer solutions to problems that people face every day. We have not done this recently and it has allowed Democrats to take power, it has allowed them to push their partisan politics, and even worse to enact their leftist agenda.»

    • Obama, job approval (RCP): approve 40,1 %, disapprove: 55,4 % (- 15,3)
    • Kongressen, job approval (RCP): approve 9,1 %, disapprove 84,6 % (- 75,5)
    • Kongressen, generisk stemme (RCP): demokratene 41 %, republikanerne 43,5 % (+2,5)

    #AMPOL-NYTT

    • Delstatssenator Adriano Espaillat vil igjen utfordre kongressmannen Charles Rangel (D-New York, 13. kongressdistrikt) i det demokratiske primærvalget. Espaillat tapte knepent 44-42 i 2012.

    • Boka HRC: State Secrets and the Rebirth of Hillary Clinton, av Jonathan Allen og Amie Parnes. kommer snart. Huffington Post er på saken: «The book, available in February, chronicles Hillary Clinton‘s years as secretary of state, a period that saw her touch down in 112 countries and play a major diplomatic role on the world stage. That’s a story Clinton’s team would like to help tell — and one that could be lost as pundits dissect a potential 2016 run already being covered by an emerging Clinton press corps. Since they were approached by the authors in July 2012, Clinton aides have helped arrange interviews with Clinton colleagues and confidants, and fielded numerous requests through the course of reporting.»
    • Tidligere Arkansas-guvernør Mike Huckabee (R) vurderer å stille som presidentkandidat i 2016. Washington Examiner rapporterer at flere religiøse ledere – også fra Iowa og South Carolina – fremmer Huckabees kandidatur: «Huckabee will test the waters when he returns home to Little Rock December 12-13 to address the Arkansas Renewal Project, part of evangelical organizer David Lane’s American Renewal Project… Among the potential candidates looking at a GOP bid, Huckabee is closest to the pastors. He is a social conservative who can quote the Bible as easy as former President Bill Clinton. … According to reports, pastors from Iowa and South Carolina–two key political states early in the GOP primary season–are meeting with Huckabee during the convention to urge him to run.»
Can I call my wife? There’s two votes in my family. My wife has both of them, and both of them are ‘no’ votes right now. … If I’m a very able politician, I’ll tell you in a year whether I’m able to persuade my wife. Right now, I don’t know yet, but I thank you for your interest.»

    DAGENS LESESTOFF

«As Obama Turns. How the president’s political fortunes predict his economic message», av John Dickerson (Slate): «When President Obama said this week that ending income inequality was ‘this generation’s task,’ his aides noted he was consciously echoing themes he’d raised in a speech two years earlier in Osawatomie, Kan. The trail actually goes back even farther than that. The president has given several significant economic speeches since becoming a national politician. The first was a commencement address at Knox College in 2005, five months after he joined the Senate. Two others include a September 2007 speech he gave at Nasdaq and one he gave three years ago Friday at Forsyth Technical Community College. … All five of these speeches have been big, strained for historical sweep, and touched on a central theme: the need for government intervention at a time when the economy has gotten out of whack. But they are not all the same in emphasis…» LINK

«State of deception: Why won’t the President rein in the intelligence community?», av Ryan Lizza (The New Yorker): «The fifteen-member Intelligence Committee was created in the nineteen-seventies, after a series of investigations revealed that the N.S.A. and the C.I.A. had, for years, been illegally spying on Americans. The panel’s mission is to conduct ‘vigilant legislative oversight’ of the intelligence community, but more often it treats senior intelligence officials like matinée idols. As the senators took turns at the microphone, greeting Clapper with anodyne statements and inquiries, he obligingly led them on a tour of the dangers posed by homegrown extremists, far-flung terrorist groups, and emerging nuclear powers…» LINK
