Al Gore har blitt «Mitt Romney-rik»

Al Gore, fredsprisvinneren og Bill Clintons visepresident, har blitt (enda) rikere på sine eldre dager.

Bloombergs Ken Wells og Ari Levy kjører overskriften «Gore Being Romney-Rich With $200 Million After Bush Defeat», og forklarer:

Al Gore «made an estimated $100 million in a single month. In January, the Current TV network, which he helped to start in 2004, was sold to Qatari-owned Al Jazeera Satellite Network for about $500 million. After debt, he grossed an estimated $70 million for his 20 percent stake, according to people familiar with the transaction. Two weeks later, Gore exercised options, at $7.48 a share, on 59,000 shares of Apple Inc. stock that he’d been granted for serving on the … board since 2003. On paper, it was about a $30 million payday based on the company’s share price on the day he claimed the options.»

New York Magazines Steve Fishman er inne på det samme i «Al Gore’s Golden Years: The almost president has become the ultimate Davos Man, a moral entrepreneur and richer than Mitt Romney«:

«In the absence of power, there is constant travel, and writing, between knocking around this empty house. And, of course, his global-warming crusade, hair-shirt labor that somehow gives weight to the rest of it. … And there’s one specific capitalist he hopes to enlighten. Gore tells me of his ambition to have another meeting with Rupert Murdoch, to talk him through the issue, convert him to the cause.

‘There is still hope that he will awaken to the reality of this,’ Gore says. ‘It would make a huge difference if he would.'»
